ASHLAND, OREGON
Ashland, Oregon is a charming town nestled in the Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon. At just 5 ½ hours from San Francisco and 5 hours from Portland, Ashland is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway.
While it is most famous for its Shakespeare Festival, there is also constant national attention (Ashland is frequently mentioned in the NY Times Travel section) for its many other offerings.
For the foodies:
Great restaurants, lots of u-pick organic peaches, cherries and berries, the Rogue Creamery artisan cheeses, wineries and the Butte Creek Mill, an old fashioned water powered flour mill that makes award-winning stone ground pancake mix.
For the outdoorsey ones:
Beautiful Lithia Park, Mt. Ashland skiing, white water rafting on the Rogue and Klamath Rivers, great hiking trails and mountain biking and golfing, and a “must see” Crater Lake.
